DOL and SBA: For Women Small Biz Owners

The Department of Labor and Small Business Administration held a “Women Small Business Owners” conference call featuring U.S. Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis, SBA Deputy Administrator Marie C. Johns, and DOL Chief Economist Dr. Adriana Kugler.

You can listen to a recording of the call. (Note that this recording is for individual use only, and not for any press or media purposes.)

The call mentioned several resources – links to them follow.

At the beginning of April, President Obama signed the Jumpstart Our Business Startups (JOBS) Act. The JOBS Act will allow Main Street small businesses and high-growth enterprises to raise capital from investors more efficiently, allowing small and young firms across the country to grow and hire faster.

The White House recently released its new report “Keeping America’s Women Moving Forward”.

SBA provides resources to help women business owners to succeed. From registering your business, to hiring your first employee, you can find out more at here, here and here.

In early January, Secretary Solis joined President Obama to launch Summer Jobs+, a new call-to-action for businesses, non-profits, and the government to provide pathways to employment for low-income and disconnected youth in the summer of 2012.

The DOL Women’s Bureau recently held a webcast on vulnerable workers with a focus on Latinas.
