Survey and Stories

In this week’s Must Know:

  • CAMEO’s Annual Survey Contest Deadline
  • SacBee Op-ed and Micro Stories
  • The Goodies: information on important opportunities like trainings, funding, scholarship programs. This week’s highlight is a rundown on the debt deal prepared by AEO’s policy team.

Annual Survey Contest Deadline

CAMEO Annual Survey: Tomorrow is the deadline to fill out the CAMEO annual survey and be entered into a drawing for a staff lunch from your favorite local micro biz. It’s up to all of us to ensure that everyone knows about the good work we are doing so that we can keep on doing it and do it at a much larger scale. So if you lead an organization, please complete the CAMEO Annual Survey. (If you don’t head an organization, forward this request to the right person. Thanks!).

SacBee Op-ed and Micro Stories

Because of technical difficulties, the links to the following awesome pieces were broken:

  • The Sacramento Bee published our op-ed about how micro is a key job generating strategy.
  • And Sweet Treats – a client of Accion San Diego and CDC Small Business Finance – was featured on page 16 of MOSO Magazine.

And there’s a new success story on our website! The story of Rewind Audio mirrors the story of Jen and Oscar Carpinteyro’s family. Jen met Oscar in January 2000, when they both worked at the ACLU. They were married in April 2001. Jen says “With a good foundation to start, only positive things can happen.” If you have stories, send ’em my way.

AEO is collecting stories of your clients’ businesses and their impact on their community to show the power of Micro. Clients will be highlighted on the AEO website and in our annual AEO500 report and be able to connect and collaborate with other businesses.

The Goodies

To better serve you and to keep these emails shorter and sweeter, I’m only going to list new opportunities for trainings, conference information, funding, scholarships, and other information that have crossed our desks since the last Must Know or those that are ultra-important (like the PRIME grants). Never fear, I will keep a running tab of available Goodies on the web.

For your information: AEO’s policy team prepared a rundown of the debt deal.

The National Street Food Conference: The 2011 Conference takes place on August 21 and 22nd at the Fort Mason Center. The conference, sponsored by La Cocina, will focus on street food culture- the food and the people that make it-, policy and legislation, the economics of street food, and small business incubation. Buy tickets now and enter ‘CAMEO’ into the discount code box and hit apply to receive a 50 percent discount. And if you’re going to be in San Francisco for that conference, attend La Cocina’s San Francisco Street Festival on August 20. Yum.

For your information: The PPIC has two new studies about unauthorized immigrants that might be of interest to those of you who work with large immigrant populations: Illegal Immigration and Unauthorized Immigrants in California: Estimates for Counties.

Vote for CAMEO: Small Business Trends is sponsoring the Small Business Influencer initiative, which honors contributors who have made a significant impact on the North American small business market. CAMEO is nominated in two categories. Vote for CAMEO in the organization/corporate category and vote for Claudia in the leader category!
